Badgers still have presence at Frozen Four in Tampa despite not playing

Those watching Thursday's Frozen Four semifinals in Tampa might wonder why the University of Wisconsin logo is on the ice.  Wisconsin may not have playedin the NCAA hockey tournament this season, but it still hasa presence as the host schoolat Tampa'sAmalie Arena.  MORE: |  The NCAA announced in 2013 that Wisconsin would serve as the host for the 2016 Frozen Four in Tampa,despitetaking place1,300 miles awayfromMadison.The last time Wisconsinhostedthe Frozen Four was in 2006, when the Badgers won their sixth national championship in  Sam Steel Jersey Milwaukee.  Making our mark in Tampa.   Wisconsin Hockey (@BadgerMHockey)  Not surprisingly,the state ofFlorida has no Division I hockey programs.  This isn't the first time the NCAA chose a school hundreds of miles away to serve as the Frozen Four host.Alaska-Anchorage was the host school when the 1999 Frozen Four was held in Anaheim, Calif., and Alabama-Huntsville handled those duties when Tampa played host to the NCAA's final hockey weekend in 2012.  The Badgers have played in the Frozen Four 12 times, but were unable to make it this year after going8-19-8. This year's Frozen Four includes Quinnipiac, Boston College, North Dakota and Denver.  The winners of Thursday's semifinals will play in Saturday night's national championship game.  Colin Blackwell Jersey
